Shogi London Supplement has moved / new online resources

Shogi London Supplement has been moved by Google from the old 'googlepages' system to the new 'googlesites', and its web address has changed as a result. The old links will still work, and links on this site have now been updated.

A number of pages stopped working and some bits looked bad, so I've taken the opportunity to tidy things up. I've also added links to some more online shogi resources, including the long established Shogi-L mailing list, an excellent series of instructional videos on Youtube from Japanese amateur Hidetchi, and a new community 81 Square Universe.

Results of 3rd World Shogi Championship Tournament 2009

This tournament was held in New York on 14-15 November 2009, and I (Steven Cain) was lucky enough to be attending as the British representative, although I did not last long in a very strong field of amateur competitors from across the world.

I may write about my trip on Shogi London Supplement but for the moment I will note that the tournament was won very impressively by Paul Ogi, and that a short report has been posted on Shogi-L by Larry Kaufman here. Larry expects to provide more detail when this becomes available.

19 September 2009 Spitalfields Tournament and Display

Here are details for a Shogi tournament and display at the Spitalfields Market Japanese Festival.

Time - from 10 am until around 5 pm
Place - Spitalfields Market in East London
Format - three round shogi tournament at 30 minutes plus 40 seconds byo-yomi

Please enter by email to David Faldon in advance to ensure that we have enough sets and clocks. If enough players have FESA grades the games will be rated.

Players will also be around to demonstrate shogi to visitors to the festival.

The nearest tube stations to Spitalfields Market are Liverpool Street (go north up Bishopsgate then east along Brushfield Street) and Aldgate East (go north up Commercial Street). It's best to check which lines are running with Transport for London.

The Shogi tournament is part of the Spitalfields Japan Matsuri Festival 2009 so there will be many interesting attractions to visit between and after the games (the Festival runs until 8 pm).
